I started my career at AGC 25 years ago and while I had the opportunity to grow and evolve in various business units and departments, I never stopped being amazed at how versatile and innovative glass is. Glass offers so many solutions and helps to make our world a better, healthier and safer place to live in. There is no way not to be passionate about this amazing and noble material!
Short biography
Hugues Lefèvre is Product Manager Health, Safety and Security Glass at AGC Glass Europe. He has more than 25 years of experience in the glass industry in a wide range of fields, including R&D, sales and marketing of glass products. He is a member of several technical glass committees and international associations. Hugues is an engineer and holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), an MBA from the EPM school and a certificate in legal expertise from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium).
“The products I’m in charge of concern health, safety and security and are part of the AGC’s Stratobel and Stratophone range of laminated glass. I define the product policy for the Stratobel and Stratophone range in order to meet customer and market demands. To better understand my job, I can be compared to an orchestra conductor who coordinates various teams – research, logistics, marketing, sales, production – for a given range of products. The experience I have gained from working at AGC for 25 years allows me to see how products evolve, and that helps me every day in my job.”
“What fascinates me about glass is that it is a unique, noble material with ancient roots, yet has evolved so much in modern times. It is truly useful in everyday life because it meets our needs in so many different areas and applications: public buildings, homes, industry, transport and more.
Starting from simple glass, properties can be added through special treatments or even by making a composite material that includes PVB interlayers, as is the case with the products I deal with.

“Light plays a very important role in our lives. Humans need sunlight for their well-being. One of the first benefits of laminated glass is safety. Even if the glass is broken, the PVB interlayer keeps the pieces of glass in place, preventing cuts and keeping people from falling through the glass. It can even provide protection against intrusions. When the glass is laminated it also delivers excellent acoustic properties, promoting a calm environment, high-quality sleep or a workspace conducive to concentration.
In the current pandemic, glass is also a very good protective barrier for limiting the spread of disease.
