For the facade glazing, they specified high-insulation solar control glass capable of giving residents the most neutral possible views of the outside world. The logical choice was Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze Thermobel Energy 72/38, since it has all these properties, featuring excellent light transmission (72%) and solar factor (38%) ratings. The facade also includes iplus 1.0 insulating glazing, which combines superb thermal insulation (Ug = 1.0 W/(m2 K.) with high light transmission.
Conceptually, the building has two faces: on the Hobbemakade side, De Hooch fits in with the cityscape, while on the Pieter de Hoochstraat side, more contrast was created. Inspired by the gorgeous play of light and sight lines, an effort was made to maximise transparency in the facade. Glass plays a key role here, since abundant daylight and beautiful views are critically important.
