YY building - London

The YY Building at the heart of Canary Wharf in London is truly a next-generation workplace: a net-zero carbon, all-electric building centred around occupant well-being.

This 14-storey office is an extensive redesign by architects Buckley Gray Yeoman that added three new floors and a spectacular rooftop terrace to the existing building. The completely new facade has been specially designed to flood the interior with natural light, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding area, while abundant on-floor terraces on nearly every level delight occupants with plenty of new outdoor spaces.

Some 14,000 m2 of high-performance solar control double glazing manufactured by AGC Interpane Architectural Glass was installed in the facade, including ipasol Bright White and ipasol Ultraselect 62/29 (combined within the same IGU), as well as Stopray Ultraselect 70/33. All products were supplied on Clearvision low-iron glass.

The highly sustainable re-imagining of this office building will reduce energy consumption by more than 60% while avoiding demolition, and is estimated to have saved 10,260 tonnes of CO2. It has been rated BREEAM Outstanding.
